If you have never tried Vietnamese food, now is your opportunity. You are in for a taste treat. Pho AN, opened for business on Feb 7. The restaurant is located in the totally remodeled Dairy Queen on First Street in Humble. If the second day of business is an example of how anxious folks are to try this delicious style of food then Pho AN will be a success. The specialty of the restaurant is Pho. Pho Bo is a soup of beef broth and rice noodles topped with your choice or combination of brisket, steak, tripe or meatballs. Pho Ga a chicken noodle soup is also available. Accompanying every bowl of Pho is a plate of fresh bean sprouts, greens, and basil. These vegetables are added to the Pho as desired. The menu at Pho AN also features appetizers, rice and egg noodle soups, rice vermicelli (often known as cellophane noodles), and rice plates all served with a choice of beef, pork or shrimp prepared in a variety of styles. Ice tea, soft drinks, and Vietnamese iced coffee are available. At this time no alcoholic beverages are served. In order to become familiar with each type of food offered, my friends and I decided to select something from each category on the menu. It took us a while to choose what we wanted to eat. The menu offers 42 selections plus 5 different appetizers. We had a few questions about the food, but server was unfamiliar with the foods on the menu. We were pleasantly surprised with our choices despite not knowing exactly what we were ordering. The flavor and quantity of each serving was excellent. Each table is set with an array of Asian style condiments, hot sauce, chopsticks, and soup spoons. For those not adept at using chopsticks; forks and spoons are set out for each customer. All dishes are made with MSG, but I was assured that it can be deleted if the customer lets the server know at the time of placing an order. There is take-out service available from the menu. While we were there it appeared the take-out area was just as busy as the restaurant. The average cost of each choice on the menu is $5. The most expensive item on the menu is $8. Sweets are not on the menu, but soft ice cream is available upon request.
